Description

Our most user-friendly, pure performance shape. Ever.

The S Boss combines Kelly Slater’s pursuit of high-performance progression with Dan Mann’s mission to make performance surfing accessible to all by design.

With a relaxed rocker, forgiving fin cluster, full outline and hidden volume throughout — the S Boss is the most versatile shape in your Slater Designs quiver.

The result? The best turn of your life. The best airs Kevin Schulz can do. The S Boss is a true universal surfboard built to unlock progression across all conditions and skill levels.

Recommended with the KS1 template, ridden as a quad. Dan Mann suggests riding this shape on the higher side of your volume range. Kevin Schulz is 168 lbs and rides either the 5’6” (27.6L) in smaller waves or the 5’7” (28.1L) in bigger waves.

Pair with Slater Designs traction and leash for the best experience.

Wave Type

When it hits chest high, the S Boss is an easy choice. From punchy beachies to reeling point breaks, Kelly, Dan and Kevin have all had memorable sessions. Recommended in 2-6' surf, in average to good conditions.

"I’ve ridden it at Lowers, Surf Ranch, a really good day in Ventura, a point in Hawai’i, and it felt good on my backhand at Uluwatu. Most excited I’ve been riding this board was in poor quality waves in Florida beach breaks." - Kelly Slater

"The peakier the better — it’s short enough that it pivots incredibly while still holding speed, like no other board." - Dan Mann

"Best in chest to head-high beachies. Point breaks too, but it excels most at beach breaks when the waves hit that chest to head-high size." - Kevin Schulz

Board Features

Tested over many years, Kelly's refined the S Boss in Hawai'i, Bali, Lowers, Surf Ranch and beyond. It's got a uniquely full outline with volume hidden throughout, a relaxed rocker, and forgiving fin cluster. A double concave runs throughout the back half of the board, funneling water off the round tail.

Not worth the hype

"Bought this with the discount I received for the Sweet Potato that had chicken pox. All the reviews I read said good. Bought it in the dims and liters that were appropriate for me. Thoroughly disappointed. Paddles great but that was it. Now they're on sale. When did FireWire ever have a sale on boards? I wonder why?"

Sales Services and Board - Awesome

"Hi Firewire Australia, Just wanted to drop a quick comment about my new S Boss 5'11". The board is something else in the water — it feels bigger than it is, paddles great, and turns beautifully. I’ve been experimenting with fins, and Kelly’s Endorfins Twin + 2 fin set goes really well with it. But I was genuinely surprised at how good it rides as a quad using the Endorfins KS1 Medium — super fast and really locked‑in through turns, not tracky. Kelly, Dam Man, and Kevin — you guys absolutely nailed this one. This was my first board purchase online and the experience was unreal. Awesome service and a 2‑day turnaround… ordered Monday afternoon, surfing it Wednesday afternoon. Thanks, team — keep pumping them out! PS: the 20% off sale helped. :)"

Falling in Love with surfing again.

"For the last 20 years my life has been surf surf surf. Peru, Costa, El Sal, and Nica, check. North shore 3 times Check. Thailand, China beach in Vietnam, and a week in Bali check. Taking off so many morning and leaving work early to catch ever little blip at home the 50s hit and I lost the love. Then about a year ago I dumped the 28ltr shortboard and got a 6'6" 39ltr Boss up and surfing became fun again. Fast forward 52yrs old and I got the 5'11 33ltr S Boss and started laying down turns that I haven't done in years. Very forgiving Ive been having more fun on it than I have in years. I hope for others they keep making this board Dan Mann is a wizard. So stats I'm 6' 165lb top end of intermediate I got the 5'11"32. 98ltr It paddles great Im running Futures Rastovich quad and it feels way better (more fun) than thruster fins. If you see one grab it."

Not very happy.

"Volcanic is heavy. Board isn’t as responsive as I thought it would be. It rides longer than it is due to the rail line"

Stewart (3/5)

Not for me.

"Bought a 5’8” in volcanic. It’s extremely heavy and turns as if it was a midlentth. Paddles Ok but not for me."

Surfed Salt Creek this

"Surfed Salt Creek this weekend and loved it! By far the best board I have ever rode. I'm 54 years old, 5' 9"", 180lbs and thought the 5'11"" S Boss might not float me. It held me just fine and I paddled into waves with no issue. Not use to paying that much for boards, but this board is worth its weight in gold!"

Wow what an amazing

"Wow what an amazing and fun board. My daily go to that handles anything thrown at it."

If youre an average

"If you're an average surfer this board will help you surf better(the hype is real). I am 40/5'11/155lbs and I brought the 5'9/30L to Puerto Rico recently. This board was an absolute blast. It paddles better than my grovel board but then it really feels like the rails combined with quads are knifing into a punchy wave face. I paired mine with the evil quads from Lost. Even the guys I went on the trip with were saying I was surfing better than they have ever seen me surf. I'm absolutely in love with the S Boss and if it broke today I'd be ordering a new one."

This is my 2nd

"This is my 2nd Firewire board. I'm 6' and 155 lbs. Experienced surfer turned Intermediate level weekend warrior. The 5'10 seemed a bit too small for my condition, so I chose the 5'11 33L. I recently rode it at the Waco Surf Park in an Advanced session. It was quite forgiving but still loaded with performance and go fast features. It made me feel like a better surfer than I actually am ;) I rode it as a quad with the KS1-M. I'm totally smitten with it."
