  • Filipe Toledo signs with Firewire

Good stuff guys! Kid's going to be dominating in the future.

Here's a copy of the press release:

At 16 years old and hailing from Brazil, Filipe is developing and maturing as a surfer at a great time.* The talent coming out of his home country is at an all time high and, through joining Gabriel Medina on team Nike, the path to success is laid out in front of him.* Additionally, Filipe is the son of Ricardo Toledo, a nurturing ex-pro surfer that has been there to guide his son’s personal and athletic development, yielding a talented but humble teenager.

Over the course of the last 6 months, Filipe Toledo and his progressive surfing repertoire have thrust their way into the crosshairs of the worldwide surfing community.* In August of 2011 at the US Open of Surfing, on arguably the largest and most competitive Juniors stage, Filipe claimed victory in a star-studded finals that featured superstars John John Florence and Kolohe Andino.*

Filipe continued to impress in January of 2012 by stealing the show at the Billabong Pro Juniors event at Burleigh Heads by launching inverted maneuvers and defeating contest favorites.* With a great finish, Filipe climbed to the 5th ranked junior in the world and established himself as an elite competitor for years to come.*

“Filipe’s surfing looked great last year when he won the Junior Pro in Huntington Beach” said Marketing Director, Chuy Reyna, “but to see him tear apart junky Burleigh Heads on a Firewire he grabbed from the racks at the Firewire Currumbin store was amazing.* Firewire is looking forward to growing alongside Filipe.”*

I knew Mr Neville had something in mind during the last comp when he was sighted with the kid...
The Canadians are trying to sign now Sidney Crosby (hockey)... maybe Mr Neville will wonder around Gabriel Medina in the near future?? ;)

Gabriel gave boards a whirl, as seen in the video that someone posted...nothing to share there, however.

        Cheers

it was filipe on a hellrazor at the Billabong junior pro.

if you want to watch some of his surfing, you can go to the Billabong Junior Pro heat analyzer

            http://billabongpro.com/wjc11/heat-analyzer-boys

He made it to the Semis so just fish through the heats and watch him. He throws a super inverted maneuver in one of the early rounds you have to see.

            happy searching, kid is insane.

Looks like this is why he wasn't on it in his first heat

"Last year’s Huntington’s US Open Junior Pro winner at Filipe Toledo came in to check out the DMS range & try out a Fat Cat Carbon Wrap before the Billabong ASP World Junior comp on Saturday. Unfortunately, a major airline happened to misplace all of Toledo’s boards and had rushing to find a few boards for the comp. Daniel MacDonald, head shaper, went over some sizing with Toledo to help cover some of his missing boards. The gang at DMS are wishing Filipe good luck for the upcoming year and can’t wait to get the feedback from his DMS boards."

Nah that was from the Juniors in January!

I saw a thing with slater getting his Rapidfire fix linking to their site and then saw that info about Felipe also on the site also.
